Position: Inside Technical Sales Representative

Status: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Sales Manager

Duties and Assignments

This job description is not designed to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.

Summary/Objective: The Inside Technical Sales Representative is responsible for assisting the sales and technical support team with the operation and performance characteristics of corporate products to both new and established clients. Their primary role will be assisting the sales and support teams in providing demonstrated technical solutions for clients using Pacific Power Source’s (PPS) family of test and measurement power products. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of AC and DC test and measurement power concepts, along with both established and modern communication interfaces (USB, GPIB, LAN/LXi Web-based operating systems).

Pre-sales efforts will directly support local and regional sales teams, serving as the subject matter expert on a wide variety of AC, DC, and regenerative power products. These tasks will range from simple communication of datasheets and specifications, to demonstration and execution of special test and product features. Post-sales tasks will include helping customers understand the maintenance, operation and application of common settings, wiring, and performance characteristics of PPS’s test power products.

They will serve customer needs by providing all information necessary to ensure a positive company experience, including a positive first impression. The Inside Technical Sales Representative must be successful in communicating with the customer while demonstrating a strong desire to satisfy their needs. The successful candidate must demonstrate an organized and consistent approach to collecting relevant data and transmitting responses via telephone and email communications.

Technical Sales Representative Duties

  • Evaluate customer needs and applications of power solutions.
  • Review wide range of potential applications for all assigned product lines to professionally promote product solutions.
  • Fully understand customer’s test requirements and interact at a technical level with the sales and support teams to resolve customer questions and issues.
  • Train and encourage the sales and support teams in the use, features, and benefits of PPS’s products, using existing collateral and software.
  • Assist sales and marketing teams in the development of training and presentation materials.
  • Prepare technical presentations and FAQ CRM-based solutions.
  • Develop professional relationships with, and act as liaison between, other department managers within the company in support of the sales and technical support teams.
  • Support customers and sales representatives through both local and remote webinar training demonstrating both hardware and software products.
  • Ensure all customer-related communications are maintained within the corporate Contact Relationship Management tool (currently Salesforce.com SFDC).

Skills/Qualifications

  • Ability to independently learn and enthusiastically embrace new technologies, hardware, and methods.
  • Demonstrated understanding of AC and DC Power engineering in Test and Measurement applications.
  • Understanding in the use of various programming environments such as NI LabView, LabWindows, MS VB/C# and/or Python in Test and Measurement Applications.
  • Understanding of relevant electrical principals, laws, and properties.
  • Understand and learn the competitive landscape, strengths, and weaknesses in order to articulate PPS’s value proposition.
  • Customer focused; able to balance the voice of the customer with the voice of the business.
  • Capable of developing professional technical proposals and presenting them to prospective customers, both verbally and in written form.
  • Capable of converting customer requirements and challenges into solutions.
  • Able to communicate required technology roadmaps and industry trends, as well as opportunities and threats, to company leadership, relative to our product strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, with good analytical skills and business judgment.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and issues while maintaining a professional and calm demeanor.
  • Strong customer and employee focus skills (listening, empathy, solution-focused).

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), BSET, or similar training/experience in power generation, measurement, electronics or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Test and Measurement or similar technical sales and support.
  • Work history must show a track record of progressive growth and responsibility.

Work environment

  • This position requires daily in-person attendance at the Irvine manufacturing location. The daily routine will include interaction with Sales, Customer Support, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality Control, and Management with full adherence to location-specific safety rules.
  • Some travel may be required in attending Tradeshows, Conferences, and Corporate meetings. Travel is anticipated to be less than 20 days per year. A valid driver license and passport are required.
  • This job requires work primarily in an office environment. The physical demands described here are representative of the demands that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel as well as talk and hear. The employee must regularly sit at their desk for extended periods of time, performing data entry, taking notes, typing, and speaking on the phone. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the employee must be able to move, lift, and use electronic equipment while adhering to all company safety regulations and procedures. The employee may be required to kneel, crouch, or lift to physically move product and test equipment. Lifting is required with single person lifting requirements limited to less than 25 pounds. The employee must also be capable of moving about the test floor in a manner that would allow them to interact with all other company departments. Strong command of both written and oral English communications is required.
